Correction: Now is the time to buy a PlayBook

by on September 9, 2011

So yeah, remember last week when I highlighted a deal from Best Buy, where you could get a 16GB PlayBook for $450, or a 32GB model for $550? It was titled, “Now is the time to get a PlayBook.” With the information available at that moment, the statement was true enough. But now there’s an even better reason to not only get the PlayBook from Best Buy, but to cash in even more. RIM is now offering a back-to-school special on the PlayBook that, while not technically saving you more money on the device, will put some dollars in your pocket. Here’s the deal. If you are already a BlackBerry smartphone owner — and if you’re reading this I can only assume you are — you’re eligible for the discount. You’ll have to go through a series of steps, which RIM lays out at BlackBerryBackAtSchool.com. Essentially, it entails filling out a form and then mailing in your invoice/receipt and the UPC from your PlayBook box. Once you do that, you’ll receive a $100 Prepaid MasterCard — you know, the fake credit cards that act as $100 gift cards. It’s a pretty sweet deal, considering it just costs you a little time. Unfortunately, this won’t work with the Best Buy deal highlighted last week. If you take a look at their PlayBook page, you’ll see that they’re back to normal prices. But that’s why we have Amazon, isn’t it? They’re running a number of deals that, while not as good as Best Buy’s from last week, are still better than you’ll get at most retail outlets. 64GB PlayBook: $663.68
32GB PlayBook: $432.00
16GB PlayBook: $402.74
