Amazon going for the tablet PC jugular
by Joe Pawlikowski on September 6, 2011

Remember that image? It came from an article about a month ago regarding the
market for Android tablets. As the image shows, people are more apt to buy a tablet PC from Amazon than any other Apple competitor. That’s convenient, because Amazon is planning at least two tablets for this year. What else is convenient: they’re apparently listening to what consumers actually want. As part of the same survey, 80 percent of customers said that they would buy an Android tablet over the iPad if the Android tablet were less than $250. According to a
report in the New York Post, Amazon plans to sell its tablet for “hundreds less than the entry-point $499 iPad.” That could then put the price point at around $200, which, if consumers are being truthful, would sway many of them away from the altar of Apple. This could absolutely change the tablet landscape, just in time for a holiday season that will likely see many tablets exchanged as gifts. Via

Nook Color Android-based tablet/eReader from Barnes & Noble has been on the market for over a year and sold millions of units at $250. Gives Flash, apps, videos, color magazines and ebooks with video inserts, and the best anti-glare coated screen on the market. Technology “leader” Amazon is finally catching up with the book store company by copying their device.
Kindle only supports eBooks in its proprietary AZW format. Nook, on the other hand, supports both DRM-protected and DRM-free ebooks in ePub format thus it supports ebooks from B&N store, from any other DRM-free source on the web, and from public libraries.
Amazon caters to its customers and they KNOW that their customers have been (eagerly) waiting and expecting a tablet.
When it comes out, Amazon customers will jump on it and buy it in crazy numbers.
The Nook Color sounds like some high-tech wizard gadget that the non-tech Amazon crowd doesn’t appreciate it. The Kindle Tablet sounds simple and will have all of Amazon services seamlessly integrated. It’s success – is a no brainer.
Cheers,
Greg
I’m with the majority on this one – I would definitely buy a tablet from Amazon.
