by on January 2, 2008

United Service Organizations and AT&T are bringing you an easy way to donate funds to troops overseas. Starting yesterday, you can dial 740 on your AT&T wireless phone and make a $2 donation to USO. After confirming via text message, your funds will go to provide the soldiers with free prepaid phone cards, allowing them to keep up with family and friends back home.

“This texting program is a simple and convenient way to help support the many military families across the country that may be apart this New Year’s Day,” says Mark Collins, vice president of Consumer Data for AT&T’s wireless unit.

The program will run through March 31, 2008 This isn’t AT&T’s first time working with troops overseas. They are big players in the Cell Phones for Soldiers program, a recycling program that helps provide calling cards for troops. [San Antonio Business Journal]
