What does wireless reconcile mean for your BlackBerry?
by Joe Pawlikowski on November 6, 2008
If you go into your message list and hit the Menu key, you might notice an item towards the bottom called Reconcile Now. If you’re as curious as me, you might have selected it a few times. Yet, most of us can’t define exactly what it does. Thankfully, the answer is simple. If you’re currently a BIS user, you can actually stop reading here. The option doesn’t have a function for you.

When I hit Reconcile Now, it was usually with the intent of having a message pop up on my BB that I know is in my Inbox (usually when I email myself a link). However, for the most part nothing happens. This hasn’t been an issue since my Gmail has been pushed immediately via IMAP. Little did I know back in the day, though, that I was hitting a useless option. Reconcile Now does work for BES users, though. It will match the emails on your account with what’s on your BlackBerry. So items you’ve read on your BB appear read in your Outlook, and messages you delete on your device will be gone from Outlook. Your BlackBerry automatically reconciles, but the Reconcile Now option gives you the ability to do it whenever.

That seems silly. Why can’t “reconcile now” have my BIS check my GMail IMAP to sync up what’s read and what’s unread???
I have a gmail account too but I can only receive SOME emails on my blackberry curve. How do I fix this?
Hello!,
How did you set up Gmail. IMAP? Are you using the application?
How do I set my blackberry to work that when I read my emails in my computer it shows that they are read in my blackberry?
What I have now is that I read my emails in my computer, and then they still appear as new and unread in my blackberry… I want to be able to delete messages from my email at my computer and have them automatically deleted in my blackberry. any thoughts?
I am interested in the same question. Did you get an answer?
I work at my desk, checking messages, answering, deleting and then pick up my BB and everything is still there. Why do I have to spend time deleting all of these off my BB?
Reconcile seems like the answer but I don’t know how.
HELP!
@tom @reem My understanding is that this is only possible with BES due to BB’s lack of TRUE IMAP support. If I’m wrong would love to hear how it can be done!

@Shaz
you can set up additional email addresses from within your BIS account.

I don’t want to receive messages from my e-mail on to my device I don’t know how to stop them it started after I set up the “wizard”
@Precious log into your BIS account and remove the email address that is associated with your BlackBerry.
What do BIS and BES stand for?
@paul
BIS = Blackberry Internet Service = The standard service that BlackBerry owners use to gain access to email and BBM etc on RIMs network
BES = BlackBerry Enterprise Server = The name of the middleware software package that is part of the BlackBerry wireless platform from Research In Motion.
BES connects to messaging and collaboration software Microsoft Exchange etc.
Reconcile (Yahoo! and Gmail) stopped working in May through June. All my emails had to be opened twice–on the computer and on my Verizon Tour.
Countless hours, five store visits to Verizon, calls with RIMM, nothing–NOTHING–worked.
Then it started auto-reconciling again.
Now, a couple of days ago, it stopped working again. The idiot RIMM tech “support” guy screwed up my gmail account and finally said to take in to a Verizon store. (I fixed the Gmail myself.)
Of course, the “Reconcile now” button does nothing. I am sick unto death of this.
You guys suck! 161 KB footprint on a smartphone site?? Very smart! Takes half a minute to refresh your bloated page which is nothing more than a simple blog. Don’t create a site about a bandwidth sensitive topic unless you know what you are doing.
@Joe We are working on sorting the site out for true mobile access. Thank you for sharing your opinion, it is very much appreciated.
