Evidence of a touchscreen BlackBerry

by on February 8, 2008

We’re bookending the week with some new innovations by Research In Motion. On Monday, I spoke of the impending CDMA Curve.

Oh, and don’t think that one is going away. You’ll see more on that one soon.

Now we’re ending the week with some BlackBerry patent news. According to a patent application recently published, RIM is working on a mechanism that will integrate touchscreen with LCD. As BBGeeks fave Russell Shaw at ZDNet notes, this application has been released in strange form by RIM.

For the most part, there’s an 18-month gap between when an app is filed and when it’s published. This one has only been lingering for four months. Shaw thinks this means a release is imminent. I’m going to agree with him, but I’ll note that my opinion is in the form of wishful thinking.

You can head over to his blog to check out the specs. It’s got a lot of tech jargon that I’m not going to try to translate (mainly because I can’t). So I guess we’re closer to the 9000 series than we thought.
