T-Mobile May Ask if You Want Free Email with That Google Phone

by on September 22, 2008

T-Mobile executives may further entice subscribers to purchase the G1 Android enabled HTC Dream by offering free email, specifically Gmail, without a data plan.

This tell me three things:

1) T-Mobile has pinned a lot of resurgence hopes onto its exclusive Android debut and will be milking it for all its worth

2) The G1 may not be that dreamy compared to the iPhone

3) Android is already getting service providers to rethink their pricing models as they adjust to the more open mobile environment, which is part in parcel Google’s mission.

Is free g-mail really enough to get users excited enough to shell out the $200 for a new phone running an (almost) untested mobile operating system that may or may not be secure? Probably not.

And anyway, early adapters are known to be technophiles who are going to want that data package anyway. No use in having a smart phone without the smartness =]
