Day in Android 3/22/11: Galaxy Tab, G2x, Sidekick 4G, EVO 3D

by on March 22, 2011

With CTIA going on this week we’re going to get plenty of information flowing. We’ll start from the top, with the Galaxy Tab. As expected, Samsung revealed both the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 today. They’re both dual-core 1GHz tablets, and will have both HSPA+ and Wi-Fi versions. Samsung is also boasting that they’re the world’s thinnest tablets, but such distinctions rarely last long when it comes to technology. The 10.1 inch version will be available June 8, at $499 for the 16GB version and $599 for 32GB. The 8.9 will follow in early summer, at $469 for the 16GB and $569 for 32GB. No word on the HSPA+ versions. [Android Central] Last week we heard rumors of T-Mobile and LG announcing the G2x, a dual-core smartphone. Today they did just that. As with many dual-core processors we’re seeing these days, this one clocks at 1GHz. It also has a 4-inch screen. It kind of feels like a waste running down features when these devices are officially announced, since we learn all about them beforehand. Still, this one seems like a winner, especially in light of T-Mobile’s announcement of 42Mbps HSPA+. Then again, with AT&T waiting to snatch it up, now might not be the best time to sign a T-Mobile contract. [Press release] Also: T-Mobile announced the G-Slate, the tablet we had seen alongside the G2x. It’ll cost $529.99, but that also means signing a two-year contract. Blech. In addition, the Sidekick 4G, while still lacking a release date, now has a price: $99.99 after $50 mail-in rebate with an unlimited data plan, or $149.99 with metered data. Make sure to check out BGR’s review of the Sidekick 4G. That image comes from Engadget, and is one of dozens they took at the Sprint keynote. Among their announcements were the EVO 3D and the EVO View 4G. Of the former, Sprint said: “We believe that the EVO 3D is the most powerful smartphone announced to date.” With a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, I’ll buy it. I also like how from the back it looks like a pocket tape deck. Oh, nostalgia. (Really, it’s dual 5MP rear-facing cameras.) And now we just play the waiting game for pricing and release date.
