by on December 10, 2010

To start, apologies for the cancelled episode last week. You would not have enjoyed it had we recorded it, as I was quite under the weather. But this week we’re back at full strength and ready to talk BlackBerry. Our topic: the future of BlackBerry’s platform. So click on over here to hear the BBGeekcast (12 min, 13 sec) And don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast so you won’t miss future episodes!

Highlights include:
BB GeekcastThis week Mike Lazaridis announced that the QNX software that will power the PlayBook will also power future BlackBerry smartphones. That’s excellent news for the BlackBerry line. We always read about how they’re out of touch with the modern user and that their software isn’t powerful enough. QNX changes all that. We might soon see a BlackBerry device that appeals to the geek crowd. How are they going to do that? It will be a two-pronged approach. First is the software. But in order to run the software RIM needs to put a dual-core processor into a smartphone. That’s another way to appeal to the geek crowd. I expect we’ll see some developments on this front after the PlayBook gets released around February. I’m sure we’ll also see more at BlackBerry World, formerly WES, in May.
