Blockbuster movies on your mobile?

by on November 28, 2007

There’s tons of streaming content out there, from small clips a la YouTube to full episodes of television shows to sports broadcasts. But what we haven’t seen are movies. Blockbuster, though, is looking to change that. They’re in talks with all the major carriers in the U.S. in regard to partnering for this streaming movie service. Blockbuster CEO James Keyes has actually tested the idea, having watched movies on his BlackBerry. Research In Motion co-chief Jim Balsillie helped him on that front. From their standpoint, it was a success and worth exploring further.

“We’re talking with virtually all of the major manufacturers about the opportunity to provide greater mobility and convenience,” Keyes said when asked if the company is talking to phone makers such as Nokia Oyj , Samsung Electronics Co. and Motorola Inc .

The only problem we see is that you could lose signal on the go, interrupting your movie. Other than that, this sounds like an excellent idea. Too bad subscriptions won’t be ready in time for the holidays. [Globe Investor]
