This week we’re going to cut down on the number of themes. Why? Because a good baseball theme is hard to find. The playoffs are upon us, and what better way to celebrate the greatest month of sports than changing up your BlackBerry theme? We have one theme filled with team logos, while another teaks a more general approach to the sport. Both are excellent postseason accompaniments.
MLB Icons
You won’t find this theme in the major outlets (MobiHand, App World), probably because MLB wouldn’t appreciate the use of its logos in a theme. But it’s around, so fi you’re a fan of team logos both new and old, you can get this one and have them. This theme features five main home screen icons — the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Phillies, Astros, and Expos. I love the latest, because they haven’t been a team since 2004 — that, and I have a friend who remains an Expos fan despite their lack of existence. There’s also a ring of icons towards the bottom which you can spin. Heading to the applications menu shows even more logos. This theme is for Storm users, so us regular BlackBerry users will be left out. But it is free, so that’s a huge plus. You can get it by pointing your BlackBerry browser to http://doublespaded.do.ohost.de/mlb/com_plazmic_theme_mlbtheme1_2.jad. Yes, it’s an OTA download.
Baseball
The first thing I thought of when I saw this theme was Playstation. Not PS3, but the original. That’s what the players in Themes in Motion: Baseball look like. But they are animated, which really is what makes this theme. The pitchers pitch! The batters hit! It’s quite the amusing novelty. In terms of theme functions, this one is pretty basic. It features two hidden docks, so you can continue to watch the windup without having icons in the way. There’s a Today Plus dock as well, so you can still access email and calendar appointments from the home screen. This one is pretty basic, but it’s also pretty cheap. You can get the Baseball theme for just 99 cents. It works with BlackBerry models running OS 4.5 and above, but the hidden dock is available only with OS 4.6 and above.
