Welcome back all you BBGeeks to our monthly roundup of the BBGeeks Twitter Help activities. If you have been following us for a while now you no doubt know about our account on Twitter.com.
Each and every Friday we reach out to other Twitter users and ask them what kind of problems they are experiencing with their BlackBerry devices. The response is always good. Some do not have problems at all, but just need some advice about BlackBerry software or accessories that would help them increase their productivity.
For all our readers who don’t use Twitter, we have decided to recap our conversations in which followers posed questions and we tracked down the answers.
Join us on the second Monday of each month for the official roundup. You never know what interesting information you will find.
My 8330′s GPS hasn’t worked in a week. What can I do to get it to find satellites?
It seems that arwild01 is running into a few glitches with his BlackBerry GPS functionality. One minute the GPS was working fine and the next minute nothing . . .
This is a tough one to diagnose remotely. There could be any number of settings or device options that could lead to your GPS being disabled by accident. We suggested doing a hard battery pull.
(Remove your battery while the app is running – wait 30 secs then power on again).
arwild01 responded back after pulling the battery like we suggested. His GPS is now reported as working fine.
Do you know a shortcut to clear all unread msgs? Or short cut to clear a message without clicking on it when in the inbox?
This is a simple one, but one that many BlackBery users are unaware of.
Scroll to the most recent message and hit menu key > full menu > delete prior – This will delete all messages in your box prior to the selected message
Do you know of any way to split up your email and SMS messages so they show up in separate inboxes?
We had just written a post about doing this exact thing the day before so we responded via Twitter and sent Tsoniki a link to the article on separating your BlackBerry SMS from your email.
Go to Messages / Options / General Options / SMS & Email inboxes and scroll down to where it says split – that should work for you.
Tsoniki reported back that yes this did in fact work and thanked us for the link.
Do you have any insight to where I can find a good selection of OTA themes for my Curve?
Great question tw3nty3ight! and yes we do know where to get a ton of great themes and they are all FREE!
For free themes for your Curve I would start here: Hundreds of FREE BlackBerry Themes
tw3nty3ight loved the link and is well on his way to pimping out his Curve with some new themes.
Is there a way to set opera mini as the default browser in 4.5?
This question is being asked more and more as the Opera Mini browser becomes popular with the BlackBerry Crowd.
Unfortunately there is now way that we know of to accomplish this on the BlackBerry regardless of your OS version. That being said, the folks at Opera are working on the issue as they are aware of the desires of BlackBerry owners.
TwitterBerry is messing up! Please retweet so BBGeeks can d islandidea me. Thank you.
islandidea was not following us at the time she made this request to the Twitter universe, but we managed to stumble across her pleas for help anyways (we really do try our best to help everyone).
It turns out that islandidea’s TwitterBerry app had stopped recognizing any links within the tweets she had received. After a little bit of back and forth through DM we ultimately suggested doing a fresh install of the current version of TwitterBerry and then an upgrade to the latest release overtop of it.
islandidea reported back to us that everything “fixed” itself after leaving the device powered off for an extended period of time. This leads us to believe that a hard battery pull would have more than likely solved the issue immediately.
why can’t I turn the key tone off on my BlackBerry when I’m dialing a number?
This is a common question from the BlackBerry community and one that we have not seen a concrete answer for. We assume it has something to do with accessibility and how the phone works with the network etc.
Unfortunately this can’t be done. One alternative you could utilize would be to type the number into a note and then click on the number in the note to dial silently. Admittedly this is not very practical.
dferrari tweeted back that yes in fact this was less than optimal but dialing from the note pad could in fact be handy in certain situations and was something she had never considered.
After this debacle I’m starting with a fresh 8700g. Looking for a simple, quick theme. Suggestions?
Starting over again after you have had your device wiped out really sucks, but there is an upside. Now you can break some old habits and get some updated software on your device.
we suggested checking out a couple themes that we had reviewed in the past months. The first was the Today Plus theme from BlueRoom Solution. The second suggested theme was the Real Enterprise Today Edition from JC at GadgetBean which is available from our BBGeeks Store.
Why is the volume on my rings & text notifications so low even though i have it at Max volume. Do you know of any hacks for the BB 8830?
This is an issue that we were not aware of until it was brought up by chriswinfield. We did a bit of digging and came up with a suggested resource.
We suggested visiting the Technical Solution Center on BlackBerry.com for instructions on how to fix this known issue.
Is there any way of taking screenshots of your BlackBerry without it being attached to a computer?
We have been looking into the various ways to take screenshots of your BlackBerry for some time now. We have people working on the site that various computer setups and have so far figured out how to take screenshots with a PC and take screenshots with a Mac. Taking screenshots internally and then sending them out is a whole different ballgame.
Unfortunately there is no way that we are aware of to take screenshots of your BlackBery without it being connected to a computer of some sort.
@bbgeeks comes up first for virtually every blackberry search I do. Love it.
Sometimes we just get random Twitter Love from those that follow us out there on the web or on their devices!
We love that you love that we show up for all kinds of BlackBerry related searches =) Thanks for following Lisa!
My “radio” on my VZW Pearl seems to have been turned “OFF”. Where do I turn it on? How did it spontaneously turn off?
This happened to me too! A short while after getting my first BlackBerry I found that I had no service all of a sudden and I could not access my browser. . .
The Pearl will shut it’s radio off when your power gets too low to run it. On your application screen, look for an icon that shows a small broadcasting antenna. When your radio is disabled this will read “Turn Wireless On”. When your radio is turned on, this icon reads “Turn Wireless Off”.
why didn’t my Pearl update the time when I landed in a different time zone? My other vzw phones used to.
jamesorlowski and I have had very similar issues with our BlackBerry devices =) I had this same thing happen to me when I flew into Vegas a short while ago. . .
The Pearl’s time is directly tied to the device calendar. We suggested that jamesorlowski read all the way through to the comments on the following post which explains why there was no update.
We have also written a post on Changing Time Zones with your BlackBerry.
Help! I need some reasons to give to my boss in order to convince him to buy me a BlackBerry.
As it turns out, we had recently published an article covering just this topic =)
Send your boss this article which outlines 8 reasons to get your employees a BlackBerry. After reading that, how could he say no?
There you go folks, all of the questions we have received in the last month through our Twitter account. If you would like to participate in our growing community of Tweeps, just download the BlackBerry Twitter application of your choice, sign up for a Twitter account and follow the BBGeeks Twitter profile.
