Tips for Tuesday: Twitter 3.0 has BBM integration

by on April 3, 2012

OK, so maybe it’s not exactly one of our weekly BlackBerry tips. But it is timely, and it is pretty awesome, so I wanted to get it out there. RIM and Twitter recently released a new version of Twitter for BlackBerry, and this one comes with some pretty noticeable improvements. Namely: BBM integration. Your two favorite communications platform now work nicely together. In fact, that’s what this upgrade is all about: making your BlackBerry and Twitter interact. BBM integration From the looks of it, RIM and Twitter added two new capabilities within BBM. The first is that you can access your contacts’ Twitter accounts right from BBM. The other is that you can share a recent Twitter message as your BBM Personal Message. Neither seems revolutionary, but that’s OK. It’s all about starting with something and seeing how it works. If BlackBerry, and specifically BBM, users react well to this integration, there will likely be more to come. Browser integration When you’re just browsing around the web on your BlackBerry and find something interesting, you can share it straight to Twitter. The app will automatically shorten your link, too, which is all too important when you’re limited to 140 characters. Camera integration When you snap a photo on your BlackBerry, you can choose to upload it directly to Twitter for easy sharing. It works the same way when writing tweets, though that’s not really a new feature. Twitter for BlackBerry, of course, remains free. You can download your copy from App World.
