With a long line of BlackBerry quick tips dating back to 2007, there is sometimes a need to go back and update some. This is partly because not all of our readers have been around all four years. For that we’ll forgive you. Otherwise, some features have changed as RIM has updated the BlackBerry OS. Three and a half years ago we went over how to change the BlackBerry auto signature, but that process has changed. The term auto signature also seems out of date at best. Here’s how you can change your BlackBerry email signature right on your device.
On older BlackBerry devices and operating systems, BIS useres could only change your signature on the web. BES users always had an on-device option, which appears in Messages – Options – Email Settings. But for a while BIS users had to log into their BIS accounts on the web to alter their email signatures. But now (and for quite some time, really), BIS users can do this right on their devices. To set this up, go to the Setup app and click on Email Accounts. Then click on internet mail account. That will bring up a list of your active email accounts. Click on the one you want to edit. That will bring you into a simple screen where you’ll see your email address listed. Scroll down just a bit and you’ll see a field for Signature. Some carriers populate this with their own, but I prefer to simplify that. No one cares that it’s a Verizon BlackBerry rather than an AT&T one, I assure you. A simple, “From my BlackBerry” implicitly begs forgiveness for all minor errors in an email. The signature field isn’t limited to an acknowledgement of the message’s origin, though. You can add an actual signature that includes your name, position, phone number, and other contact information. Or you can just add an affirmation or other inspirational message. Any way you choose to do it, you can do it right from your device.
