Refresh BlackBerry App World to see the latest apps

by on December 1, 2010

If you use BlackBerry App World frequently enough, you might notice something particular. Once you open it, the app pretty much stays open. That is, after I restart my device App World fully loads, but each time thereafter it feels as though I’m just opening a minimized icon — that it’s been running in the background the entire time. Clearly I’m not going to restart my device to refresh the App World cache. That’s just silly. Still, if I don’t clear the cache I won’t see new content. Thankfully, RIM just released a Knowledge Base article that teaches you how to clear the cache — and perhaps speed up your BlackBerry. The only drawback to this process is that it will clear any applications you have archived on the media card. This can be a pain for some, but for most of us I don’t think it will cause much trouble. With BlackBerry ID, you can go back and re-download those apps when you need them. You can’t do it out of cell range, so that’s a downer, but I don’t think I’ll miss that feature. (Also, I kind of noticed my BlackBerry lagging a bit less after doing this — I might clear the App World cache once a week if this keeps up.) If you have a QWERTY BlackBerry, do this: * In App World, hold down ALT and press R-S-T If you have a Storm it’s a bit more of a process. 1. Open App World and hold the phone in landscape position.
2. Open up your keyboard.
3. Press and hold the !?123 button until you get Alt lock
4. Type 3-4-( After you do this, App World will close and your BlackBerry will freeze. Wait a tick, and then you can restart App World. The featured apps, plus your apps, will refresh. You can then re-download and re-archive apps if you so choose. A hat tip to BerryReview for first posting this tip. A commenter on that post said that simply going into My World and hitting Refresh List is easier. It is. Except I found that it did basically nothing. I highly recommend performing the extra keystrokes and doing it this way.

1. Open App World and hold the phone in landscape position.
2. Open up your keyboard.

How do I open the Keyboard (on my Storm2) in App World. For example, I could open it with the “Search” function but it simply searches for “34(.” I just don’t know how to open the keyboard in the “home” position.

@Ron you have to hold the numlock button (“!?123″) so it types letters instead of numbers.

didn’t work for me on the storm either. No way to open the keyboard. You can’t hold down the num lock and still type.

Did the Alt+R+S+T inside App World, it closed the app all right. Then I went into App World again and re-input email and password; the App world downloaded my program list again, including the NOT DESIRED uninstalled items :S
Does anyone know how to get rid of those “uninstalled items” list?

Go into your app world, for each uninstalled item, go and select to reinstall each one of them. As soon as you see them starting to download, press in on your track ball, this pauses the download, now go in and press your black berry button and select delete….when you go back to my world, the application will be gone. And just to be sure, do the Alt + R + S + T combination to be sure…

Merry Christmas.

This worked perfectly on my Curve.
It does not work on my Bold9780 however.
I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling app world and that doesn’t even clear the cache or allow me to see new apps… Very frustrating.
