While plenty of things involving the BlackBerry frustrate me, nothing was more frustrating than the time I flipped through all of my icons, only to find that I didn’t have a browser icon. What had happened to it? A little research revealed that something or other had gone wrong, and that I just had to re-send my service books in order to fix it. In my BlackBerry related travels I came across this forum post on BlackBerryOS, in which the user complains of a similar problem. He could not find his email icon. This has to be a bit scarier than missing your browser icon, because email is the primary function of a Blackberry. Here’s a quick way to get it back if you ever notice it missing.
First, log into your BIS account from your handset. This is under the Setup icon. Go into that, and then select Email Accounts. From there you’ll get to your BIS login. Once you’re logged in, click Menu and select Service Books. You’ll see the screen on your right display on your BlackBerry. Click Send Service Books, and you should see the icon or icons reappear in moments. It’s always nice when seemingly big problems have easy solutions. I’m not sure why you sometimes see your browser or email icons disappear, and I don’t know why resending the service books does it. I know that it interacts with the BIS server and brings your device up to date. But the important part is that it’s the fix. You may proceed as normal.
