How to sync your BlackBerry contacts with Outlook

by on May 18, 2010

Yesterday afternoon we went over the basic tip of how to add contacts to your BlackBerry. The next thought in that process is of how to sync your Blackberry contacts to your Outlook ones. This also works for Outlook Express users. The process is pretty simple, as all you need is a USB cable and Desktop Manager. Once you have those two, you’re ready for a quick syncing process. First, if you don’t have Destkop Manager, you can download it here. Once you have downloaded and installed Desktop Manager, connect your BlackBerry to your computer via USB and run Desktop Manager. You should see confirmation in the status bar at the bottom of the screen that your device is connected. You should see your PIN number listed. As you might have suspected, the next step is to click Synchronize. You’ll then click Synchronization in the left pane, followed by the Synchronization button on the right.

From the next screen, select Address Book, and on the screen after that you can select from a number of options. Outlook is probably the one you want here. From there you can select whether you want a one-way sync, either from the device to the desktop or the other way around, or two-way sync. On the next screen select the correct Outlook profile, and then you should be set up. You won’t be synced, but the parameters will be in place.
After you hit Finish, you’ll go to the Synchronize screen again. Check the Synchronize organizer data box, and hit the Synchronize button. You can also choose to automatically sync the next time you connect the device, by checking the box at the bottom of the screen. Now you’re set. You might get a prompt to accept changes, but for the most part you’ll want to accept. You might encounter some problems along the way. For that, I’d suggest this Google search, which points to relevant threads in BlackBerry support forums.
