You know what’s mildly annoying? Picking up my BlackBerry and accidentally hitting the convenience key along the way, prompting an automated voice to tell me to say a command. Ugh. No, I’m not a fan of the BlackBerry voice dialing application. I’ve actually never used it, and I’m sure there are plenty like me out there. So how can you get rid of that? That’s what we’re aiming for today. The first, and simplest, measure is to change your convenience key. As the link suggests, we’ve been over this, so just click on it and find out how to select an application of your choosing. As a Curve user, I’ve got two of those puppies. One of them takes screenshots, and the other locks the keyboard.

You could also just change the convenience key to something you do use. I find the voice dialing feature incredible useful and probably the best voice dialing system in a phone ever. I have my app hidden actually because I only access when driving using a bluetooth ear piece. What I love about BB’s voice dialing is there is ZERO setup. There is no need to record audio tags for every contact, and I’ve found it matches up even names that aren’t phonetically pronounced (good programming). It also responds accurately when you use conversational tones, no need to sound like a loud booming robot to get an accurate match.
This was very helpful to me thank you old bean
Blackberry’s voice dialing is the worst I’ve seen. Prior 4 phones all let me record, in my voice, the contact I added (e.g. 5 Davids so David Smith was recorded as DeeSmith) 99% accurate… Blackberry interprets what you are saying and “tries” to match it to your contact list, about 20% accurate and it takes minutes to get it to dial. It’s bad, very bad, pretty much useless.
I agree totally with JCurtis!!!
This would have to be the most painful voice recog ever. I had a Philips Xenium many years again that kicked it butt. By the time I get who I want it’s much quicker to find it the usual way. I cannot believe RIM actually let that crab out of it’s box. The voice recog seems to want you to talk like a robot to get even close. I would like to ask Terry is he works at RIM. get rid of it please…waste of memory AFAIC maybe remove the module for the VRec to gain more mem??
I agree w/the dissenters. I hate BB voice dialing. Not only does it not recognize your commands, but my BB Bold is always initiating voice dialing on its OWN, and mostly when I’m using the Media app to listen to music or podcasts. There’s nothing more frustrating than having your music suddenly cut short by a white screen of death, and hearing “say a command” repeated infinitely. The worst part is, once it jars you out of listening, you can’t get the media app to pick up where it left off, since some bug forces it to skip to the end of the song/podcast, or flip between play/pause endlessly until you hit stop.
I propose BB use the voice of HAL for their next voice dialing release.

@Padma Absolutely – you just have to change the function of the quick launch key it is assigned to – see here:
