They had been annoying me for a few weeks, but it took until this morning for me to finally do anything about them. Four icons had appeared in my notifications bar: messages, App World, Facebook, and Twitter. Really, only one should have been there. I had seen all my message, all my Twitter mentions and direct messages, and my Facebook message. Why, then, were they still showing up in my notifications bar? The answer turned out to be pretty simple, if not annoying. If you’re bothered by the same issue, follow along below.
Messages This is pretty common for Gmail users, or anyone who has webmail with one-way sync or slow two-way sync. You’ve read the messages on your computer, but your BlackBerry hasn’t caught up. For some reason, my BlackBerry never catches up on some messages (it seems that anything that skips the inbox in Gmail is susceptible to this). You’ll have to go into your messages app and mark prior opened. Thankfully, it’s a painless process. Twitter This one annoyed the crap out of me, because I use Twitter for BlackBerry often enough that I shouldn’t still be seeing notification icons. Yet there it was, the Twitter icon with the number 6 next to it, even though the app itself knew that I had checked my mentions and DMs. Apparently this is because I didn’t check my DMs? I’m not sure. But after I opened my DMs and scrolled down to the first one, the notification icon disappeared. It’s just odd, because there was no red star above DMs in the Twitter app. Facebook Again, obnoxious. I had seen all my Facebook messages — had opened my messages and scrolled through them. But that’s not enough, apparently. No, you have to go through and open each message individually. There’s no mark prior open option, either, so you’re stuck going through them. We can only hope that this bug is corrected in a future update. App World There’s no way around this except updating the apps, dummy. It will become much easier, of course, once they implement an update all apps feature on the app itself.

THANKS
ok – sorry new to this, but what is a Dm? I just downloaded and signed up for twitter. now that stupid little blue bird will not go away from my home screen. I changed all the notifications to “none”….so how do i clear the little guy?
A ‘DM’ is a Direct Message on Twitter, when someone writes directly to you so that no one else can see it. Kind of like a mini email but inside Twitter.
For the person who still sees the fb notifications, just check your inbox, BB may have helpfully sent you a message saying welcome to BB that you may have to read. When you’ve also checked your options to make sure you receive no further notifications this should get rid of the really annoying little buggers!
