The BlackBerry device is a wonderful thing. RIM‘s magical SmartPhone allows us to keep up speed with all of our business correspondence while on the move, as well as keep in touch with all our important contacts. We load our BlackBerries with various softwares and applications to increase our productivity and customize them with interesting themes and ringtones. We watch movies and play games and track day to day activities. All of these things require passwords and usually involve storing data on our devices that is sensitive in nature.
So what if you want to wipe your BlackBerry clean?
No I am not talking about cleaning your screen folks, I am talking about erasing all of the data that is stored and bringing the BlackBerry back to it’s factory default state.
There are a number of reasons why you might want to wipe out your Blackberry. Perhaps you have switched jobs and need to submit your BlackBerry into your new IT department so they can set it up for their network. You wouldn’t want them to have access to your previous employers data would you?
Perhaps you have purchased a new model of BlackBerry and would like to gift your previous model to a friend or sell it on ebay. The same rule applies, you do not want them to see what you were using your Blackberry for prior to handing it over.
If you fall into either of the above categories, or another with the same goal of wiping out your BlackBerry, you are in luck. The process is actually extremely easy and accomplished in one of two ways:
- Incorrect password entry: If you enter an incorrect password into your BlackBerry 10 consecutive times, the BlackBerry is programmed to wipe itself out as a security precaution. You will be prompted to type the word “blackberry” (no quotes) in order to confirm the wipe.
- Manual Wipe: In order to perform a manual wipe of your entire BlackBerry, you will need to do the following: Options > Security Options > General Settings > Click the trackwheel/trackball on the Password field > Select “Wipe Handheld”. As with the above method you be prompted to enter “blackberry” (no quotes) in order confirm the system wipe.
I hope this guide has been helpful to you folks looking to wipe out your BlackBerry. Please do remember to perform a complete system backup before you proceed with the wipe. You never know when you will need to recover some of that data in the future.

i use a program call JL_Cmder to wipe
Everything on wiping your blackberry is accurate except on the Curve – rather than “Click the trackwheel/trackball on the Password field” you need to press the Menu button and the Wipe option will appear.
I would like to ask what will happen and steps i need to follow when i confirmed wipe.Because my father really forgotten his password for keylock and he has tried 6 times wrong. Thanks lot for help.
Will I lose the unlock code in my phone when wiping my Bold? I want it to remain unlocked when selling it.
@Ian Wong – check out this post for how to reinstall your BlackBerry OS once the phone has been wiped.

@JimmS Unfortunately your phone will be returned to a locked status once you wipe it and reinstall the OS
cannot get slacker to work on my blackberry curve. I can get streaming radio and i have the unlimited data package but it will not let me set up an account on my phone
I have a Blackberry Curve and have a problem accessing my Home screen. I locked my device after setting a password in the application list, re-entered this same password a few minutes later and was able to unlock device. However, about 15 minutes on I tried accessing the menu on Home screen again but this time could not unlock device using the very same password. I can receive calls and texts/e-mails but cannot make calls or read/reply messages, everytime I enter password the message “Incorrect Password” appears along with the number of “tries” I have left. Is there a way I can over-ride this problem or reset the whole darn thing????? Thanking you in advance!!!!!!
I have wiped my Bold, and after restoring, I couldn’t access to wireless internet connection (mobile network works), so please advice! thanks!
Is there ANY way to get alll my information (texxts, contacts, etc) back if i accidentally wiped my phone and i ddidnt back it up anywhere?
Nope – unfortunately you will not be able to get those back =(
i have the blackberrry tour byy the way.
thankks (:
hello, i have a unlocked blackberry storm and recently the sms icon has disapeared and i cannot recieve txt. i can still send but no one can txt me. also my phone seems to be lagging and doing other wierd things. can i wipe it off all programs and info then reload the os somehow? and once i do is it still unlocked?
@Forrest Yes you should be able to completely wipe the device and reinstall a new os without relocking the device.
Hello. I wiped my Blackberry Curve 8330 clean and everything is gone of course. However, if I click phone log, it still says my phone number. Is there a way to get rid of that completely as if it came out of the box with no type of activation? My friend will be buying it from me but obviously my phone number should not be there. Any thoughts anyone?
Marl,
As far as I know, the phone number display is default. There’s no way to wipe that as far as I know (though someone else might know better). Once your friend changes it over to his or her number, the number will change.
ı have unlocked blckberry tour today i accedently did the wiping thing and now i cant use my phones functions i cant use browser or my bbm there ıs edge not EDGE i talked vodaphone and they told me that there is no regısteration about my phone wipimg my phone might delete my balckberry servıce what should i do please replay me i really need help
After wiping the device how do you put new software and data on the device?
BJ, the operating system and all basic apps will still be there after a wipe. So you’d just add new software and data as you normally would.
I purchased a joblot of blackberrys from a company closure. All are locked and password coded. As well as being in French. Is there anyway of resetting the phones or should I just sell them on in parts?
Is there any other alternative to wipe info??? I had to get a replacement phone because my BOLD became possessed and will no longer let me type the letter “a”. Instead it types “ou” therefore making it impossible to type “blackberry”. I think its a virus. Should I just send my phone back as is??
Excellent. Thanks for the tip. Worked great. Now I can enjopy my new Bold :)
my husband has forgoten the password he but into his phone please help what can he do
great! thanks so much!
what do you do if you do accidently enter the wrong password to unlock your bb 8830 i did and my screen reads jvm error 513 how do i get it off that and back to normal
Thanks so much. This helped me erase my personal data from my 8330 before selling it. I’m really happy that your information was posted online.
Hey guys, quick question. I have a BB Curve 8900 from TMobile. Unfortuntately TMobile won’t let me use my wifi without the data plan. I’ve unlocked my phone and can use the hotspot browser because it is slow. Also, TMobile won’t allow me to access the mobile versions of websites. I am thinking of wiping my phone and reinstalling the OS. My question is whether my phone will still work fine and if I’ll have the browser available. I read above about somebody whose browser disappeared after they reinstalled the OS. Thanks
Sorry meant to say I can use the hotspot browser but its very slow.
I have blackberry curve version 8310. All i REALLY want to do is delete all the contacts. But i dont think i can do that without wiping it out? If anybody knows any way to JUST erase all contacts let me know PLEASE!
Samantha-
If you have the Desktop Manager Software, you can go into the Backup and Restore section, go to advanced and under the column “Device databases” you can highlight the address book and hit clear at the bottom.
Enjoy-
Ok, I set a password then like 5 minutes later it said i had to unlock it so i put the password in and it said “wiping out”. Now screen says JVM, OR JUM 513( I CANT TELL IF ITS A “U” OR “V”) so how can i fix this?!. Please help
@Alliyah Unfortunately a problem happened inside your BlackBerry that corrupted your OS – you will have to reload the OS and start from scratch.
http://www.bbgeeks.com/blackberry-guides/step-by-step-guide-to-upgrading-your-blackberry-os-88196/
I recently returned a company blackberry to the folks I just resigned from. Before I did, I wiped the blackberry and gave it back. Can the next user still get into my facebook because i forgot to address this. I had it set up so I simply accessed facebook with my password already installed. The fact that I wiped it…should be enough. Correct?
@tony yes that should be enough – you should also go in and change the security settings inside your facebook account as well
I wiped my BB 8310 that I purchased from a friend. I put my SIM card into it and it does not seem to recgonize that I have a SIM card inserted. What is my next step in order to access phone book on my SIM card?
@Pam If the sim is not being recognized you may have to try the wipe again. If it still does not work you may have to find a work around.
Possibly – get a new sim card – insert the old one into another bluetooth capable phone and transfer the contacts through Bluetooth.
Hi, I did the wipe and sold my phone, I’m worried about BB messenger, I understand the PIN is phone specific, therefore if an old contact of mine messages me, will it go to the person who bought my phone?
Hello all i have wiped my blackberry what i bought from a market on sunday and its now not doing anything i want it too lol its not letting me ring out or ppl ring in it wont let me on net or nothing no texting but when i bought it it did well i bought it 4 my daugther and there was rude pics on so wwent to factory settigs etc then deleted them all now nothing everything works etc apart from calls net and messaging any help pls
What default applications will I be left with if I do a master reset on my BB?
@rach Phone, browser, email, BBM
@Cooper In an earlier post, you mentioned that it should be possible to wipe the device and reinstall the OS without relocking the device. I have an unlocked Verizon Blackberry Tour that I’m using for Tmobile. However, I can’t do much on it because of BES, and I’ve searched high and low for a way to remove this policy without “relocking” my device. Any help would be appreciated!
@Bianca Here is a post that details how to remove the IT policy that is on your phone.
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Remove_IT_Policy
As far as that reversing the Unlock – I am not positive it will re-lock. Give it a shot – worst case scenario you have to pay a few bucks for an unlock code.
If I follow this guide for my VZW Blackberry Tour, will it erase the Verizon settings? Like, will it remember my phone number? Can I reset and then keep making calls, or will I have to get it all activated again with the setup codes from Verizon? Thanks for your help.
@Bill Wiping your phone just erases the data off it. It will still work on your network as before. You may have to go back and set up email addresses, bbm profile, resend servicebooks and your HRT but that is about it.
Thank you, that is what I wanted to hear! I have another minor issue someone may know the answer to. I have BB Tour set up to sync with Gmail using their Google Sync native BB app. Calendar appointments are coming into the BB from Gmail Calendar, but so far anything I set in the BB doesn’t get back to GC. I have not seen any options to control the syn direction and according to Google it is supposed to be 2-way. Anyone else with this issue, or can anyone else confirm they got it working 2-way so I shouldn’t give up yet? Thank you.
I want to report back the previous post is solved. It takes some time in the initial sync, but after that finishes it seems to sync both ways as expected.
BB wouldn’t recognize my password and consequently (after 10 tries) it wiped my contacts. This a tragic situation of epic proportions. All of my business contacts are gone. Only a few were saved to my desktop. I won’t even ask WHY this happened… but is there any hope of retrieving those contacts? To be honest, there’s only one acceptable answer.
@bill Unfortunately you are not going to get the answer you want =(
It is so important to do regular backups using Desktop Manager. That way when a tragedy occurs it is easy to recover.
Sorry Bill
Hello, If i wipe my curve, will my Pin reset? In other words, will i have to re-add people to my bbm? thanks
Yes you will lose your contacts unless they have been backed up previously.
I’m getting ready to sell my BB Storm. I wiped the device following the instructions, but I’m wondering – do I need to also remove my SIM before selling it?
@denise Yes – keep your sim when you get rid of the device. There is no need to hand it over as the new owner will have their own sim card.
Thanks for this. I did the restore and everything works except for the browser and the internet. Is there something I’m missing or something I need to reinstall to have it work?
Actually the web browser icon is not there at all and when I try my ESPN app, this is exactly what it says:
Your device does not currently have any Browser Configuration Service Book Entries. Please contact your service provider to enable the Browser on your device.
Should I take it in to the Verizon store or is there a way I can do it myself?
@ryan Register your BlackBerry again by resending your HRT info. Here is a post that explains how. This should sort your issue with the Browser out.

I want to wipe my BB 9700 bc i have a ton of junk i shouldn’t have downloaded. It says that this will prevent me from sending/receiving emails in the future? what does that actually mean?
@Christina It means you will be unregistering your BlackBerry. Have no fear – once it is wiped you can go back into the setup wizard and add email etc again.
Got it. That was exactly it. Thanks for the help!
I just got the Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330 from my brother but I have T-Mobile service. Does anyone know how to program the Blackberry using my T-Mobile info or s there a way to clone my T-mobile info on o this Verizon phone? I don’t see a Sim card or Sim card slot anywhere on this BB so I am assuming that it can somehow be reprogrammed using my T-Mobile info in order to get it to work with my service, Can anyone help me or steer me in the right direction? Any help with this would be truly appreciated.
Thank You
Paul
@Paul Unfortunately you can not use the Verizon BlackBerry on your Tmobile network. Verizon is a CDMA network (no sim) while Tmobile is a GSM network which requires SIM cards to operate.
P.S
You can email me at csschicago@gmail.com for post #24441
Thanks Again
I have a personal Curve 8320. I just got a Curve 8350i from work and am transferring everything over to the work phone. I want to get rid of the data plan on my personal, because I no longer need it on both. I’ve done the wipe twice on my personal, but am still having e-mails pushed to the phone from one of my yahoo accounts. How do I stop this?
Thanks,
Chris
Hi Cooper,
I have been following this post and have seen that you have been of profound help to a lot of ppl..Please i need your advice on what to do.i just got an unlocked Sprint BB Tour from someone and it has his number still stuck in and the icon for 4 voicemails..do i wait until i go to my service provider for the BIS and it will get wiped so i can setup my email or what do you advice…thanks
@Andrew – yes when you take the phone in and set up BIS they will remove old email and phone number data from the phone.
You should be starting from scratch. If the voicemail indicator still reads 4 after you have set up the phone and services then do a battery pull for a couple minutes and it should reset back to zero.
What do I do? I accidentally wiped my BB curve and now the maps icon is gone (the one that looks like a compass), is there any way I can get that back?
@Forzy you can re-download maps here
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/features/blackberry_maps.jsp
Does anybody knows what to do? My BB curve vibrates but does not ring out.
@Addy check out your ringer profiles and make sure that tone is not set to silent in holster or out.
Also if all things appear to be set up correctly try a battery pull.
@Cooper- thank you so much man..been waiting on your reply before making the next move..you have been of immense help..Cheers
hi there… i have a bb curve the t mobile frosty blue coloured one and i have a very unique bb pin with it … i have heard that these are quite collectable.. its only like 2 different digits in it lol…. do you know where people sell/buy/exchange these ?? many thanks.. im sure you will be of much help..
@Steve I don’t know too much about collecting BlackBerry devices – lol I tend to abuse mine until I need a replacement.
I would imagine this would be a strong place to start (or at least ask around)
http://www.blackberryforums.com/buy-sell-trade/
My blackberry got wiped by a Ex. girlfriend; all my numbers are gone fr the P.Book some calls show the info of the caller still like its still in memory; if so how do i access it
@Steven Perhaps those numbers are stored on the sim card?
I’ve had my BlackBerry stolen. The sim was not in the phone. It is an 8900 curve. It is password protected but has sensitive information on it. Will the device be wiped if someone tries to enter a password and gets it wrong 10 times?
Thanks
@Jenny Yes the device will wipe itself when they enter the incorrect password 10 times. It will restore back to factory default.
Hi, I have a blackberry curb 8520 that I am selling I need to completely wipe though! I use facebook through the app so if I did the handset wipe will all my facebook info be deleted? Also when I upgraded my phone(8520)to the 9700 I set it up on my computer the funny thing was the 8520 was not set or even linked to the new phone but I managed to wipe all contacts in bbm off the 8520 and sent all the contacts that were on the 8520 my new pin for the 9700 even though they wernt my contacts and while someone else had the phone this was while I was just trying to set up the desk top manager! I have read all of your advice which has been brilliant so please help me!!!
@Chan Not sure what is going on with the BBM contacts but to answer your first question – yes your FB info etc will be gone when you wipe the phone completely.
how do i wipe out my blackberry 8330 using desktop manager?
@Sue Press the Menu button and the Wipe option will appear.
This process does not completely wipe the Blackberry’s. If you have videos, music or photos those have to be wiped/deleted manually. All it wipes is the ROM and some data sections. Basically anything stored by you (or an individual) will not be wiped and must be removed separately.
willit erase your memos
@Harold Yes your memos will get wiped
I wipped my bb now i dont see the internet icorn and when i use facebook or msn messenger on my bb is says data service is not availble
@Kiersen caines I suggest resending your service books http://www.bbgeeks.com/quick-tips/what-is-a-service-book-what-is-a-host-routing-table-881448/
My boss gave me a blackberry curve 8320 enterprise server, so I wipe the handheld immediately? The problem is what would I do in enterprise activation? And after wiping, will blackberry messenger will function? And one thing I can’t make the yahoo messenger function? What would I do? Thanks
I took my blackberry in to get a new screen the other day, and the guy told me it had a virus and to do a clean swipe on my blackberry. When I did it nothing changed it still has glitches in it. PLEASE HELP!!!!
@Roxi What kind of glitches?
Help! I have a sinking feeling as I write this, but is there anyway at all to prevent a 10 password fail from completing a wipe of the blackberry? My daughter tried to get onto my phone without realizing the danger of entering the wrong passwords so many times. As soon as it started the wiping I pulled the battery, sim card and another (vodaphone?) card from the back. It was at 2%.
The reason I’m so freaked out right now is that I’m in the middle of a divorce where there are 16 months of text messages that I NEED to keep!
I’m in limbo with out a phone right now….any quick answers that could save my phone would be miraculous and appreciated!
@Bill Unfortunately there is nothing to be done once the wipe starts. When you reboot your phone it will either continue with the wipe or it will register a jvm error.
The only way to recover your data is if you had a previous backup of said data. Anything that was not backed up will be lost.
ii have a problem with my blackberry 8900, it says sos at the top right hand corner where my network signals are supposed to be.
i know its not the sim that has a problem because i put it in another phone and it seems to be working fine, i even wiped out my phone starting from scratch but im still getting the ” sos” problem.
could you please help me with this?
@Nadia check out this post for instructions on how to turn your radio back on.
http://www.bbgeeks.com/quick-tips/turning-your-blackberry-radio-back-on-881933/
Let me know if it turns itself off again.
tried that, it detects the network for a second and then the sos icon appears .
@Nadia – looks like it is time to update your OS. Make a back up of all your important data and media and then upgrade your OS to the latest available. Let me know if the radio is still an issue after that.
is there a way i could message you or something lol because im sure this is getting annoying.
ive tried updating the os, still have the sos problem. seems like my blackberry is posessed or something lol
i have the bb 8300, and i have somehow managed to remove bbm. after numerous trys i have gotten it downloaded and i can see it in applications but it wont run. my os is v4.2.2.114….i have tried downloaded a newer version but it never updates, and i have also when and look for the vendor.xml file……to delete but it just says vendor(safari document)i dont see the .xml…i am at a lost please help..thanks
@Jo Try deleting the current BBM and redownloading it from http://www.blackberry.com/messenger
I just got a used BB curve 8330. I was charging it and getting my numbers put in it. I finished with that and took it off the charger and about a min later it shut off and then the red light comes on starts to turn on and just goes back to the black screen with the red light. But whenever its on the charger its fine. What can I do to fix this?
@Julie It sounds like you managed to nuke your BlackBerry =( It happens sometimes – I suggest the following to try and get it back up and running:
http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/blackberry-how-guides/6175-how-recover-nuked-blackberry-pictures.html
Hi I’m shelby I’m havin a lil prob with my curve 8900. Firstly the spell checker has stopped working(it used to) everytime I click spell check a message comes up saying “Input system error. The system is being restarted” and nothing happens after that, it still underlines the incorrect word but it doesn’t correct just that weird message, and it doesn’t restart. I’ve tried checking the spell check settings nothing works. So I’m thinkin if I wipe it it will work?. And I also wanted to know if I do wipe it I know ill loose everything, but is it I must that I put some special “software” on it. And do you hav any suggestions for the spell check. PLEASE HELP!!! I really need back my spell check for school. Thank U!
@Shelby Try checking that your input language has not been changed: settings > options > language > input language)
Also – do a full backup using desktop manager – then reload your OS files. You can restore your contacts etc from the backup after reloading the os files.
@nadia not sure if your question was answered but have you tried the following? settings> look for where it says something like radio on- turn it on. stupid blackberrys once reset/wiped/factory settings end up switching radio off- look for the setting & manually switch it back on- I hate blackberrys- I wouldve given you exact details but I own a nokia not a crappy blackberry :)
Does anybody know how I can wipe clean my blackberry pearl when I have a JVM Error?
@Dan What specific JVM error are you getting? There are different solutions depending on which error is present.
How do I clear everything on my Blackberry Curve 8310 if it’s broken? The screen is locked and the only key that’s not working is the Y key which I need to type blackberry. Is there any other way to wipe my information?
@neeed help Check out this guide on how to wipe your BlackBerry using a program called JL Commander

I gave away my Blackberry Bold 9700, to a friend. She did a Security Wipe in order to erase all my info, pictures, etc. Will the original apps/icons return afterwards. If not, how can she get everything back?
@Yady yes it will go back to default.
I recieved a bb storm from my cousin after her upgrade. How do I remove her number from the screen and her email in order to use my email with the phone. I am using it on simple mobile(prepaid) everyting working except email, Please help!
@k grant if you wipe the device and reload the os all that info should be gone.
Hi, I wiped my Blackberry Curve following your instructions. Everything seems to be erased except for my telephone number. When I look at the call log, it’s empty, but my number still shows up.
Help?
@Elena Do you still have your SIM card in the device? If yes then your number will show up.
This was great! I had asked the girl at Verizon but she wipped throught the screens so fast that I had no idea what she had done!! Thank you so much!!
Hi Cooper, I was wondering do my phone have to be activated in order to reload software 513?
@TT No you can load software onto a BlackBerry regardless of whether it is activated or not.
do you have to keep your sim in the blackberry when wipeing it?
will it touch anything on my sim?
@John It is ok to leave the sim in while wiping – it is not affected at all.
my blackberry 9560 i can not wipe after the security option my blackberry says advanced security options i soft reset it and all it will not show general settings PLEASE HELP!
@Francis I suggest using JL Cmder if you are looking for an alternate method of wiping your BlackBerry.

muchas gracias!
Hi Cooper!
I’ve got BB 9630 Tour (Verizon unlocked, BIS data plan by carrier) and using it Russia under MTS carrier. Have such problem: any moment BIS being dropped down and cannot work jointly with gprs. We’ve already found out here that’s such problem is generel here for handies with CDMA module and only while working with our carrier. Ususally we just go to site of our provider and switch the gprs sirvice off. Then BB is trying to nock to verizon servers via tcp and having to results it’s coming to bb server and BIs is working again, but of course internet acces is unavailable.
Then if I wipe my phone and get fresh service books everything is right, all the book have the APN as blackberry.net as well as HRTs. Then some bloody application is chabging my true APN records to emgsm.vzw3g.com in each end every sirvice books and HRT and the holy mess is repeating again.
As an experiment I’ve removed Verizon PTT application and all the modules related to it. I noticed that it. Then I’ve noticed that time to time something makes the APN record clean and then blackbery.net record appears again everywhere. Everything works propelly until tought reboot for any reason (some lag or the battery being discharged completely or handy being rebooted on its own). After the tough reboot the bloody emgsm.vzw3g.com appears again. In order to heal this I have to wipe device, get fresh service books of my carrier not spoiled with Verizon APN records and restore all the data (mail, addrws books etc.) I could avoid this headache just deleting all the service books and re-entering into cell net, but I cannot remove HRT not wiping device. So my questions to you:
- can I remove HRTs anyhow not wiping device?
- what is module in OS which is writning Verizon APN into books and HRTs and could I delete them?
- Can I anyhow block system and don’t allow it to write Verizon APN in?
Thanks in advance
@Kind_Spirit Your question is a little bit out of my league unfortunately as I do not know very much about the inner workings of the BlackBerry on a module level.
I did however find this bit of information that I think may come in handy. The thread it comes from is very long but may be worth while checking out:
Here’s the fact:
1. 9530 verizon has a file called VSM-21666-002 built in to the rom which contains all the splash logo, wallpaper, and the most important is APN: emgsm.vzw3g.com
Therefore, on GSM(gprs/edge up and down) it always does tunneling/provisioning first to verizon apn automatically…nothing we can do about this, eventhough you alreally filled yours local op. apn on option, advanced option, tcp/ip setting. it still does bounch back to default verizon apn first before reaching your local apn. or blackberry.net.; you may check on eventlog by pressing “/”/ on menu landscaped mode to verify.
2. They ONLY way to make it runs smoothly is to change the VSM with the one from TEL*S or non-branding VSM.
3. Until now, it is still impossible to inject or replace Verizon vsm unless RIM releases a simple program/application that may delete the second line and third line “emgsm.vzw3g.com” from VSM-21666-002.

Thanks Cooper! I’ve already found an info like yours at our blackberrys.ru, but your link explains everything. It just means that’s a time to collect a bit of money and go and buy new 9700 :)
Thanks again for your immediate assistance!
Hi, I have wiped my Blackberry Curve and were it was selected before i left it has i wanted to wiped the phone clean because i had backed-up my files. However, where it was stated before the wiped was confirmed there was a box stating – Email, Contacts, etc – I then leftthis current box ticked also because it was already clicked so i then clicked also on the other box stated – User Installed Application _ which i think that was the only one i should have clicked on instead of the first one also. However, I did clicked on both and then my phone was then wiped and after i have conctact my service provider they wasnt able to help with this problem, in fixing this internet problem, I now cant use any internet connection on my phone; BBM, Email etc. so i was just wondering apart from turning the phone off and waiting a while a few times, which I have already done, or even ensure the GPRS is in capital. and also useing a wireless connection to help with the speed neither seems to be working. would you have a clue as to what i can do next, well i will be taking it into the service provider shop also to investigate this issue.
@greg You don’t mention anything about reinstalling a new Operating System onto your device. Did you do that after wiping it?
Hi, i just had my BB 8900 unlocked to t-mobile i just bought it of a fried who didn’t wipe it properly and it won’t allow me to change the E-mail address i was wondering if i was too wipe it now will i loose my unlocking code?
@sean Nope once unlocked it is unlocked for good. Go ahead and wipe it again.

@kimmers yup you should be fine after the wipe.
I need help. I have a Blackberry Curve 8320 and this happened to me yesterday:
Suddenly the screen turned white and it said “Error, please restart” so i did that… But this is what happened: Since then the screen goes white with the little sand clock (the same image you get when you start the phone) and it goes off… then on again with the white screen and clock, and off again… all by itself… it hasnt stopped doing that since yesterday… HELP!
PD: It’s not the battery cuz i tried also with a new battery and it doesnt work.
@Charles something has been corrupted – I would reload the OS and start fresh
so if my bb so if i forgot my security code how do i get past it?
@mario Unfortunately you will have to wipe the device in order to remove that security code.
I have a 9630 tour, from SPRINT, a new one, but i can’t activate internet browser out of US. Will wipe help me for this problem?
@Mark Do you mean you can not activate the browser when roaming outside of the US or do you mean you are trying to activate the device on another network outside the US and can not get the browser working?
i have a blackberry tour 9630 that is locked with alltel do u know of anyway i can unlock it for free so i can use it on verizon
@tonya I could tell you how to unlock it yourself but it really is easier to pay for the unlock. Check out http://carrierunlock.com for a solid service that is pretty affordable. Unlocks there go for $10 and the team is good about helping you if you have any issues.

Hi,
I have the Bold 9780 which is currently running on OS 6.0. The phone is currently giving me issues in regards to sending/receiving text messages, or anything data related. (BBM inlusive). I contacted my phone provider, and was advised it may be an issue with the OS itself. (I also get “App Error 602″ from time to time).
I was just wondering what you may think the issue may be, or if there is a way I can wipe the phone COMPLETELY – including the OS so I am able to re-install it.
Pleaseeee contact me via e-mail! I’m dying over here!
@Danielle There are a few ways to wipe your device http://www.bbgeeks.com/blackberry-guides/guide-to-wiping-your-blackberry-88202/
You may not have to wipe it though – who is your provider? What version of the OS do you currently have?
Here is a guide to simply reloading the OS (not a full wipe but do backup your data before doing it).

My blackberry bold 9700′s trackpad has stopped working, is there a way to perform a wipe without having to go through “options”? Is there a manual “wipe” I can perform?? PLEASE HELP!
@Need BB Help You can reload your OS through Desktop Manager or wipe with JL_Cmder. Is your device recognized when you plug it into the USB of your computer?
hi….i need help>>> i just did a security wipr and nw i cannot register my email addresses…..
@Aisha You should log into your BIS account and try adding your email from there instead of over your device. Let me know if you need help locating your BIS login page.

Hi,
I have a blackberry bold 9700 from t-mobile. I am trying to wipe everything off it so I can sell it. I seem to still have music and pic. on it as well as my phone number. what can i do besides just wiping the phone.
Thanks so much
@llj Log into your BIS account to remove the email address association and format the memory card and as it will not have been affected by the wipe. Anything else you need to get rid of?
I NEED HELP!!!! MY BLACKBERRY SECURITY WIPED ITSELF. I HAVE CURVE 8330 & Its No LOnger Working Says I Need 2 Restore Device Software…WHat Do I DO?
@Michael read this to find out how to restore your device software: http://www.bbgeeks.com/blackberry-guides/step-by-step-guide-to-upgrading-your-blackberry-os-88196/
If I wipe my Blackberry Bold will it still receive phone calls and ring?
@Fungible It will only ring and receive phone calls after you have reloaded your BlackBerry Operating System files again.
Ok i tried wiping my blackberry and it only got to 10% and will not move and more. i take the battery out and then it just loads right back to 10% when i turn it on so basically i cannot even use my phone right now because i cannot get it off the wiping screen. What should i do??
@Joe – Pull the battery and start over. Sometimes the wiping process freezes.
Also see these instructions if it won’t recover.
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_wipe_the_BlackBerry_using_Jl_Cmder%3F
(9700 bold)Well I’m not sure what happened but my bbm and msn have gone from my home screen X_X the only way I can access msn is to go onto the msn home page and bring it up like that-but then it’s slower and it’s a pain. I can access my bbm if I hold down the blackberry button that looks like a flower lol. I was wondering if there is a way I can get it back-I have tried re-installing but it’s not working.
Problem2) When I receive an email-it shows I have an email-but when I go to the message sections where all my emails usually go I can’t find it? It I have an idea who sent it I can search the recipient and find the email like that, but I don’t have the time to play guessing games? Also some of my messages will not delete whatever I do, and I need them to go urgently. Please help if you can x thankyou
@Niki Are you using a custom theme? The issue with the notification for an email that is not really there is a common problem. Usually you can clear that notification with a battery pull. If you are using a custom theme, try switching back to the default theme and then pulling the battery. If it clears up the notification go ahead and switch back to the custom theme.
As for messages not deleting – are these facebook messages? If yes it is also common – you should be able to delete them after a battery pull. The best bet however is to uncheck the option to have them show up in your messages folder.
As for BBM and MSN – try using menu > Show All to unhide any hidden icons. Do this in your applications folder, downloads folder and your home screen.
Let me know if any of those helped.
can i upload music to my BB 8250 with out installing the software on my comp?
@Shilpa Yes you can enable mass storage mode on your BlackBerry. When you plug it into the computer two drives will be recognized. The first is your device memory while the second is the memory card.
Open the memory card and dig down until you see your music folder. You can drag music files from your computer right onto the media card with no extra software required.
Hi All,
I lost my 9700 (left it in a cab)…and bought myself a new 8520. I am now trying to restore my data from the 9700 to the 8520 but always get an error while doing that.

You can download the most recent OS from your carrier from http://blackberry.com and it should load up on your device with Desktop Manager just fine.
hi i have a big problem…
i forgot to do a backup to my blackberry and i already use jl_cmder and wipe my blackberry.

@dc Reinstall your BlackBerry Operating System files and your BlackBery will be as good as new.
Hi,
Quick Question or 2. For some strange reason I am not able to receive MMS messages to my 9700. I can how ever send them. My provider (Vodafone) done a sim swap so I now have a new sim to try and solve the issue which it hasn’t.
I thought maybe a full reset will fix this issue.
However, I noticed it also says I will not be able to send or receive emails on my device.
How would I go about correcting this after a security wipe?
(Sorry if this has already been asked. I just never wanted to wipe it and and end up doing more damage)
@steve I am not sure what would be causing the MMS to deliver but not receive. I will have to look into that one.
As for setting up email again after a wipe – simply log into your BIS account and set up your email and any filters you wish.
Here is your BIS login page:

Bonjour! j’ai besoin d’aide d’urgence!!!!!

@Julie
Cette bulle bleue est un message de notification BBM:
ouvrez votre dossier Messages
thanks for the how-to guide! Worked perfectly!
i did not want to wipe my 9700 blackberry what do i do?

i have got a unlocked blackberry 9630 ,as i am using it gets switched off and automatically it restarts pls help me out
HELP! I’ve recently received the App Error 602 so I thought a wipe would help but all the manual wipes suggested are for Windows and I have a Mac. Any suggestions? I’ve tried everything! :(
@ragad Try connecting it to Desktop Manager for Mac and reloading the software -
I recently bought a bb bold on the net {verizon}. When I tried to get it turned on the company told me that the phone had been reported stolen. Will wiping it allow me to use it? If not, Can I do anything about this or am I just s.o.l.?
@Shawdy Unfortunately once a device is reported as stolen you will have a hard time hooking it up with most networks.
I lost the functionality of my track pad on my blackberry 9700. Is there a way to wipe the device though the Desktop Manager?
@DP you can reload the OS from DM but not do a full wipe – to do a full wipe use programs like JLCmder or BBSAK.
I really need some help! My blackberry curve will not turn on! My red led light flashes but thats it!!! i took it to the phone shop near me and they lost it so when they rang me to say they found i took it out and didnt even let them try to fix it! i would rather try and solve this problem myself! so any help is deeply needed.
@sam Simply connect to Desktop Manager and reload your OS and you should be back up and running. The LED flash is a positive indicator that your device can be recovered.
My blackberry keeps on turning on and off what should i do in this case…it’ll turn off in the middle of a call or it’ll freeze and then turn off
@Sorely That could be a network thing or a physical defect with the battery.
Check your battery to make sure it is firmly in place and all contacts are connecting.
Have you recently installed any apps right before the problem started? If yes then delete those apps.
Make sure you have at least 12 MB of device memory free.
Wipe your phone and install the latest OS version for your device.
Hey all I need help please. I took a blackberry 8530 on trade at my store, noy knowing that it had a lock code on it. Well I tried 10 different codes. Nothing worked, after the tenth try the phone reset it’s self and now the cursor key in the middle will not work.. Any suggestions?
@Jenny You need to now reload the operating system software. The device has been wiped.
Perfect! This is exactly what I was looking for.
Thank You for posting the video!!!!

@mand Try turning off your social apps at night or changing the frequency of the updates to every twenty minutes or so.
I wiped my friends phone will his photos and so be gone?
@luke Photos on his device memory will be gone but photos on his memory card will not be deleted unless specifically selected.
Hi, im having problems with my blackberry 9300 3G. it keeps going to SOS as in the signal. and i have to keep resetting my mobile network just to receive a text. what can i do?
@adam If you change settings so that your phone stays on 2G instead of automatically switching between 2G and 3G does the problem go away?
Barring any physical damage, sometime upgrading your OS version can fix issues like this.
Hi there, i am having trouble with my curve 8520. I charged it overnight, and then when i wanted to look at my texts in the morning i could not open them. Because of this i reset my handset, and this is where the problem occured. The phone does not load up, only to 2/3 and then the load up bar just freezes / stops. Any ideas? Please help me!
@kiernan Backup your device and reload the OS files (or upgrade to a newer version) – or restart in safe mode and delete any apps you installed immediately before the phone started acting up.
Hi,

Thanks for this quick & easy tip! Works like a charm…On my Bold 9650 the settings were slightly different but with your guidance, it was easy enough to figure out. Thanks very much!
@El marko Cheers – glad we could help.
So im trying this, but my “a” button doesnt work (reason why im sending it back) so im not able to type the word “blackberry” into the phone. how can i “wipe out” the device before sending it back if i cant even type that word to be able to continue my process of deleting everything?
@Allurie Try connecting to Desktop Manager and entering the wrong password using your computers keyboard.
if i restore my blackberry to factory settings will my unlock also be removed?? also if i restore it will it fix my phone bcuz it keeps saying please close other applications and try again when i try to open my camera
thanks for this… it has been so long since I have even touched a blackberry… you are lifesaver!!!
Allurie, go to a webpage or a text message, look for the letter ‘a’, copy it, and paste it into the text field? Don’t know if this would work as I don’t have a password on my phone, or need it resetting. If anyone else would need any assistance with their bbcurve 8520, drop me an email at kyle.ceiran@gmail.com :)
Just a quick thanks. Exactly what I needed.
@Darren Excellent – glad we could help.
Anybody know if a service provider can remotely delete files from a stolen Blackberry?
@Calderon If you had BlackBerry Protect on your device it is possible:
http://www.bbgeeks.com/blackberry-applications/blackberry-protect-released-in-beta-zone-886962/
If you did not have something like this set up then no the device can not be wiped remotely.
Thanks so much, exactly what I needed!
Hello, by accident I locked my phone, and after failing on the password attempts it started to wipe clean..so i took the battery out, and now every time i put it back in to start up it continues to wipe..how do i stop this so i don’t lose everything on my blackberry?thanks
Blackberry Curve 9300. I am unable to enter my password and am on attempt 6/10 with 4 attempts left before my contacts etc are wiped. Every key entered is shown on the enter password screen rather than showing an asterix (*) as per usual. It’s as if there is some default accidently pressed? This is the 2nd time this has happened and last time everything was wiped at the 10th try. After a while a screen shows up saying to enter “blackberry”. When I type the word it takes me back to the password screen but nothing changes. I tried taking the battery and SIM card out but no change? HELLLLLP
Also, I can receive phone calls but am unable to access any other functions.
my phone has a message saying if i whipe i wont be able to receive nor send e-mails from this device again…. those that mean even if i configure my e-mails i still wont be able to send nor receive e-mails????
I did this on my blackberry curve 9300 and I was supposed to get the 10 tries back again (apparently), but it still says I have “0 tries left” each time I wipe it. Is there a way to do it through the desktop manager or any other way ?
My BB was just stolen. it seems it is turned off. I requested my phone service provider to lock my number. Will the wipe command still be able to erase the data?
hello :) my dad has had his blackberry curve 8900 for about a year and it is his work phone, it suddenly came up with a message saying app error 523, then reset. So he clicked reset but then it just goes back into a loop :( so i was wondering is there anything we can go that is free and easy?

I have 36 uninstalled apps but I want them to be completely off of my phone. Can i do a swipe to clean out all the programs and my phone still be UNLOCKED? Or will it be locked if I did that? Is there another way to clear the memory out of my BB applications?

When you wipe a blackberry clean, does that mean it wipes everything, including the OS? I want to wipe my blackberry to get it to default factory settings but keep the OS on it.
Bob, wiping your BlackBerry takes it back to the factory default, so the OS will still be there.
I’m so mad!!! I have a torch 9800 and my friend went to ten password fails and my Phone started to wipe. So I took my battery out and sim card and know I need to know how or off I can stop the wipe.

So I went through options to see if there was a setting I could change but didn’t find any but I cleared cookies, cache ect but nothing changed. Now when I click on the browser it doesn’t open at all! Do you know what is wrong and what I can do to fix this? Will wiping help??

I have an old 8310 Curve. I don’t want to use the browser, and have deleted the WAP, etc., from the service books. That takes care of the browser icons, but all I have to do is do a hard reset (remove battery) and the device resets it all. How can I permanently remove the browser from the OS so that a hard reset won’t reinstall it?
