Over the course of BBGeeks’ almost-three years, we’ve done plenty of quick tips. So many, I suppose, that I sometimes think we’ve covered something, but have not. That sometimes works out well. Today, for instance, I had planned a tip about removing phone information from your BlackBerry inbox. I thought we had done a tip on separating SMS from your inbox, but after a few searches I found that not to be the case. So it’s a two-for-one. How to remove SMS, and then how to remove call information from your BlackBerry inbox.
First, let’s do the SMS part. As you’ll notice in some themes, there is an option to have your email and your SMS show up in different places. Your email will still go to the general messages application, but if you choose to separate them you can have SMS go somewhere else, rather than combine with your email. If you have something below OS 5.0 go to your messsage application, hit Menu, select Options, and then select General Options. There you’ll see an option for SMS and Email Inboxes. By default it’s set as Theme Controlled. If you want them separate, select it and select that option. If you’re running OS 5.0, go to your messages application and select Options, but go to Inbox Settings. Under Other Message Types, uncheck the SMS And MMS box. That will create a separate icon for your SMS and MMS, and they will no longer show up in your main messages application. To remove call information from your messages application, go into your call log, press Menu, and select Options then Call Logging. There you can set what types of notifications show up in your messages app. Choose either missed calls, all calls, or none. I prefer none, since all of that information comes through on my call log anyway.
Control what appears in your BlackBerry inbox

The newer 5.0 OSes let you choose which accounts specifically to merge.
Running Blackberry OS 5.0, in order to combine SMS,EMAIL, MMS, go to your messages application and select Options, but go to Inbox Settings. Under Other Message Types, uncheck the SMS And MMS box and SAVE. Then go back and re-check the boxes. Now all messages, E-mail, SMS and MMS will be combined and be received in the messages folder…
Is there a theme for the Pearl 9100 which shows the sender and first words of new SMS on the home screen? I am using the factory Today theme and while it shows the sender/first words of new email, it neglects SMS/MMS. My old Pearl 8100′s factory theme (also called Today) had this functionality. Thanks.
