Cleaning your Tour 9630 trackball

by on February 22, 2010

In the past we’ve explained how to clean your BlackBerry trackball if it’s starting to stick or otherwise malfunction. Problem is, you can’t use the same method for the Tour 9630. The housing is a bit different, and it doesn’t allow you to remove the ball. Thankfully, CrackBerry forums user kingzee made a video showing you how to clean the trackball using just a strip of paper. If you’re having problems with yours, or just want to keep yours in good repair so you don’t face issues in the future, check out this video.

A much easier solution is to take the 5 minutes required and have Verizon ship you a new one; with luck, they will have shipped you an Essex by mistake.

Hey, i just changed my tour 9630′s housing.. and the flash doesn’t seem to work anymore… do you know why? or how i can fix it?

@sylvia Most likely a loose connection as a result of moving or bumping something when you changed the housing.

Not much I can suggest aside from opening it up again and checking connections etc.

A little tricky getting the paper to feed but, once I was able to get it, worked like a charm! Tackball is up and operational again!

Who says you can’t remove the trackball?
I started down the “paper chase” but quickly discovered that by using a thin plastic strip instead of paper you can pop the ball out (it’s rubberized), clean it up, and pop it back in.

cheers.

You can just pop it out with a small screw driver then clean then pop it back in

Is it possible to fix my blackberry Tour once it has said…Uncaught exception: java.lang.Error

The phone turns on once you take the battery and and put it back in but the buttons wont work so the phone just goes to sleep after a few seconds.

I couldnt get the paper to go in. Just saw another youtube video for an alternative route that did the trick for me. Lock the screen. Put a sheet of paper down on a hard surface. Tun the phone upside down and rub it up and down on the sheet of paper. Cleared right up and good as new again.

my Tour went off suddenly and has refused to come on for some days now….how do i repair that?

Onuoha, it could be any number of issues. It could be the battery, or it could be something internal. Try hooking it up to your computer and starting. If that doesn’t work it might be at the end of its line.

Hi my naija friends,
To remove any obstruction or clogging in your blackberry trackball, all you need to do is lock your blackberry tour keypad for a start.
YOU DON’T NEED TO REMOVE YOUR TRACKBALL OR STUFF IT WITH PAPER!!!
Simply, get about 1-3 A4-sized papers or a sheet of newspaper and spread it on the bare concrete floor or a carpet. Turn your blackberry phone ‘face-down’ and just roll the trackball on the paper left-to-right, up-down and round (circular) movement.
Make sure you apply some pressure like you are ironing a rumpled shirt.
Do that repeatedly until you feel a smooth movement.
If you go 5 times, I’m sure your trackball will be back as good as new.

You can check by testing it until you are satisfied.
Use this method to clear any clogs in your trackball at any time.
Love you guys.
