Clean up your applications menu with hidden items

by on September 26, 2008

I don’t know about you guys, but I have a ton of items on my BlackBerry desktop. So many, actually, that I don’t want to display all of them. Too much scrolling, you know?

The Today Plus theme eliminates some of my unnecessary icons, but I could do to hide some more. Thankfully, it’s simple.

Just scroll to the application when the full menu is open and highlight the icon you want to hide. Select, of course, Hide. If you want to unhide the icon, hit the Menu key and select Show All.

Hidden icons will then appear, so you can scroll to any icon, hit the Menu key, and uncheck the Hide option.

Screenshot guide after the jump.

I’ll see your tip and raise you THREE (if you’ve got a full keyboard device anyway)!

First tip – I use Shortcut Keys to get to all the essential applications – Messages, Address book, caLendar… See my post here:

Second tip – instead of doing all that hiding, just create a folder called Hidden and move everything into that folder. Then the stuff you never use is still easily accessible.

Final tip – I use the L theme (can’t find a Today Plus theme that uses the font I set everywhere the way the Dimension theme does), and I have three folders across the bottom: Documents To Go (which holds other applications too), Games, and Links which holds those myriad of icons every BlackBerryCentric site has. That leaves me five icons for applications that I use all the time but don’t have Shortcut Keys.

Try it!

Thanks for the helpful tips – I’ve long avoided bringing in my email because I didn’t want the clutter. Problems solved!
