In celebration of BBGeeks’ four-year anniversary, and in celebration of my first real vacation in six years, we’re reaching into our archives and hoisting some quick tips that we haven’t revisited in a while. These are the bare bones essentials, so if you’re a long-time geek you’ll probably know these. If you’re new, take notes. They can make your life easier. In the past few years, RIM has made your BlackBerry PIN number a little less necessary. While it’s the easiest way to add BBM contacts, it’s not the only way. You can find friends via email address, which makes life just a little easier. Still, you’ll want to have your PIN handy, or at least be able to find it on a moment’s notice. Here are a few different places you can find it. On the box: When you buy a BlackBerry, your PIN number is printed on the box, along with a barcode. Of course, you probably won’t keep your box long, so you will likely find it elsewhere. In the options menu: In OS 5.0 and below, you can go to Options and then Status to find your PIN. In OS 6 it is under Options -> Device -> Device and Status Information. It should be the second listing from the top. In any text field: By far, the easiest way to find your PIN is to open up a new email or text message, and then type mypin followed by a space. Your PIN will appear.
