Watching YouTube on your BlackBerry is easier with Player

by on June 16, 2010

Ever try to watch a YouTube video on your BlackBerry? If your experience is anything like mine, it’s not an enjoyable one. The YouTube mobile page loads just fine, but sometimes I’ll click on a video and nothing will happen. When I want to watch in their High Quality format I can click into the video post, but often cannot click the HQ link. From what I’ve gathered, it seems like everyone has a different experience using YouTube on their BlackBerry. Thankfully, a couple of dedicated players have popped up lately. There’s one in our store that just got an update, and so far it seems like the best one out there. It is called, simply, Player for YouTube, and it does exactly what the name suggests. It provides almost the same experience as the YouTube mobile site, only without all the frustration. You can look through the most viewed, top rated, featured, popular, and newest videos by just clicking on an option. And, of course, you can find pretty much any video hosted by the service. The app provides a search feature, which saves your search history, as well as an option to browse by categories and tags. When you click on a video you can get all the information on it, including the description, tags, and related videos. It also includes user channels. You can share videos if you’d like, and if you have a YouTube account you can sign in and edit your favorites. It’s really like the web experience, only in a mobile format. Which is exactly what many YouTube junkies seek. There have been some issues with the application — like the YouTube mobile site, it doesn’t appear to work for everyone. It is, however, free, so it’s worth a shot if you’re not in love with the YouTube mobile interface. You can get Player for YouTube here. It works with BlackBerry devices running OS 4.6 and above.
