Sometimes we need to repeat things just to make sure they’re properly emphasized. It wasn’t long ago that we went over Player for YouTube, but I’ve had so many incidents in the past few weeks that I thought it was ripe for a revisit. Basically, if you’re using BlackBerry OS 5.0 or older, you probably haven’t had the best YouTube experience. You can view some videos, but more often than not it doesn’t work — at least for me. I’ll get a link to a YouTube video and the media player will launch after I click it, but it will just say Loading until I finally quit. That’s why I installed Player. It’s really the only way to view YouTube videos on your BlackBerry.
The Player app basically brings you all the functions of YouTube. You can search for the videos you want, or you can browse by most popular, top rated, etc. You can even drill into user channels, a feature I’ve found incredibly useful. It’ll even play the high quality videos if YouTube offers the option. Seriously, if you watch YouTube videos, get this app. I actually deleted it over the summer and came to regret the decision this week. It’s not that big an app, and it is absolutely essential if you want to access YouTube. That is, unless you’re not having the same issues as me. But you are, aren’t you? You can get the free version of Player here. If you want to zap the ads, you can get Player for YouTube Pro for $2.99.
