Supercharge your BlackBerry address book with Xobni

by on March 17, 2010

Remember last week when I talked about Swoosh Contact and wished it came with more features for that price? Turns out I should have waited a week or so. Via CrackBerry, we learn of an address book application called Xobni. It does the same thing as Swoosh Contact, ranking your contacts by your communication frequency. But it does even more — it even rebuilds your entire address book into a more complete directory.

To create this new, supercharged address book, Xobni pulls information from every crevice of your BlackBerry. This incldues your email, calendar, phone log, SMS, plus other apps like LinkedIn and Facebook. You can then access those contacts easily from the Xobni screen. Even better, you can flick the trackball (or trackpad, I suppose) upward in the compose message screen to pull up your contacts, from which you can select as an email recipient. Check out the above video for the full skinny on Xobni. If you’re still interested, you can check out the free version, which acts as an Outlook add-on. The basic BlackBerry version costs $9.99. That’s a one-time fee. If you want Xobni to pull information from your BlackBerry plus Outlook, you can check out Xobni One. The cost information is on the website.

I purchased the $9.99 version for the blackberry, and I like the interface but you can’t edit the selections. I have some emails that are automatic from a company that come constantly and its listed as my top contact. I never contact them personally they email me. So it would appear that an edit function would be essential in future updates.

This app is awesome! Today, I’ve been looking at ways to make my address book better. I’ve posted this elsewhere as well, but after using this App, people may wish to remove duplicates within their address book. A good solution is to use an App available through Blackberry Appworld called Contacts Cleaner.

Thanks so much for this posting. Without the video, I couldn’t have pictured how this would work.
