Leave It On adds pop-ups, and is now free

by on August 17, 2011

A little over a year ago I was enthused to write up an app called Leave It On. It was one of those apps that has plenty of practical use for nearly every type of BlackBerry user. It did one thing: kept your backlight lit when you launched certain applications. This worked wonders for navigation apps such as Google Maps, as well as media player apps (e.g., while you’re driving) and others. Now they’ve released an update, and it absolutely rocks. Not only has the developer added a free version, but they’ve also added a new feature: message pop-ups. The new pop-ups work in an intuitive way. After you set up which pop-ups your receive, you’ll see them when you’re working in other apps. I’ve always loved this feature, since I’m the compulsive type who has to check new messages every time the red LED starts flashing. With pop-ups I can see the gist of the message right from my current app, so there’s no hassle. Turn It On works with 17 different messaging apps, so your favorites are bound to be on the list. The backlight feature works in the same way as always. You can use it for up to eight applications, and when you launch said application the backlight will stay on. Again, this is perfect for GPS apps and really any app that runs while you’re driving. You can also keep the backlight on when the device is charging. On the other side, you can have the app automatically disable itself when the battery falls below a certain level. This will help you avoid the dreaded “battery too low for radio function” message that has everyone scrambling for a charger. Again, the app is now free, so you can download Leave It On right now. Of course, there’s still a paid version, and it provides some more customization options, including more applications with pop-up support. If you want this added level of customization, or you just want to support the developer, you can buy the premium version of Leave It On for $3.99.
