GpsSpeedoMeter keeps track of your travel stats

Are you a runner, or even a walker, who likes to keep track of sessions? How about a driving enthusiast who wants to track various stats for your many trips? There’s a new app in the BBGeeks Store for geeks just like you. It’s called GpsSpeedoMeter, and it’s an excellent tool for tracking your trips, whether they be by foot or by vehicle. It’s essentially a GPS application without the turn-by-turn directions, but with a number of statistics about the trip you’re taking. In other words, it won’t get you to where you’re going, but it will tell you plenty about how you got there. I imagine runners will gain the most from this. The application acts as a speedometer, so you can keep up a brisk pace, and a odometer, so you can see how far you ran. This is especially helpful for runners, and walkers, like me, who likes to change up the route frequently. My dad, for instance, runs the same route every day so he knows how far he’s going. I like to try different routes and see different scenery, so I’d like something handy so I know how long I’ve ran. The application provides other functions, too, like the elapsed time and direction you’re heading. It also tracks your trip, so you can check out your route each time you run. You can also mark certain points on your route, so you can go back and revisit something interesting you caught on a previous trip. The only disappointment I found was that you can’t export the stats to a spreadsheet. That would make this even more useful. As it stands you have to manually make that transfer. Another excellent use: as a more accurate speedometer in your car. You can, for the most part, track your speed, distance, and time with the tools already available in your car. Your speedometer, however, is probably a bit off true speed. Ever since I put a real GPS unit in my car I’ve noticed that my dashboard speedometer runs three to four mph slow. If you already have a car GPS unit this might not be necessary, but if you don’t this app can serve as that as well. I wouldn’t recommend getting this app just to act as a more accurate speedometer, but if you can think of a few uses you might want to check it out. You can get GpsSpeedoMeter for $4.99.
