Google Maps adds Street View, walking directions

by on September 18, 2008

I love me some Google Maps. It’s a bit better than the native BlackBerry Maps application, and stands out atop the best BlackBerry map applications. Yesterday, they made it a bit better. In addition to driving directions, Google Maps will get walking directions, a feature they’ve been experimenting with in their desktop version.

It will keep you off major highways, and won’t direct you based on one-way streets. This is especially useful in an urban setting, where one-way streets abound and more people use their legs as a primary mode of transportation.

Google also added Street View to their mobile maps. This has been around for quite a while on the desktop version. It’s always been a little freaky to me. I can see the truck parked down the street in the driveway. Thankfully, my own car hasn’t been indexed yet — though I expect I’ll be able to see my POS parked in the driveway soon enough.

Google maps is very cool but they definitly need to update the satalite views. There are 5 year old buildings that aren’t in the view.
