Baseball season is here, meaning that for the next six months the boys of summer will be playing nightly. I’ve made no secret of my love for the game — who other than an obsessed fan would want a Yankees-branded Storm? While quick-launch icons for all 30 teams are available from BlackBerry App World, there’s an even better feature this year: Gameday Audio. This allows you to stream radio broadcasts of your favorite team right to your BlackBerry. The best part is that there is no blackout restriction, so you can listen to the hometown team as you go about your daily business. If you get good signal, it beats the radio for sure.
To get Gameday Audio, just go to mlb.com from your BlackBerry browser. Scroll down just a bit, and you’ll see the icon for Gameday Audio. Follow the link and find the game you want. Once you click on it you’ll be brought to a payment screen. The service costs $2.95 per month, which I found eminently reasonable — though, again, I’m strongly biased. Once you fill out the secure payment info, it’ll take you right to the game you selected. It’s not perfect, of course. My first complaint is that I had to pay for it at all. No, I don’t expect things for free, but I already have the $110 MLB.tv package, which includes Gameday Audio. I logged into my account on my phone, but nothing doing. It seems that they don’t let their loyal customers get streaming free with the service. It irked me just a little bit, but not enough to deter me from buying it. The other complaint is that once you’re in the media player, you can’t do anything without interrupting the stream. Even hitting the Menu button pauses it. Any of my baseball-obsessed brethren have this already? If so, do you think it’s worth the cost?

The $14.95/season is even better. You’ll also get a scaled down version of MLB gameday on your BB.
I don’t see the gameday audio icon or option on my Curve 8300? How do I download it?
I only see the alerts option
Jesseatcal, it should be right on the main screen of mlb.com. It’s not an icon, just a text link that says Gameday Audio.
I am psyched up about GameDay Audio. I just got a BB Bold yesterday and cannot wait to listen to the Rays game tonight.
Joe, found your site yesterday and love it! I look forward to browsing it some more now that I have a real BB (I had a 7100i, but upgraded to a Bold).
What would be the usage/network charges with this?
