Switching profiles on your BlackBerry is not a difficult task. It requires just a simple tap or click on the profile icon, which is right on your home screen. From there you just select the appropriate profile and you’re good to go. You can also easily create new profiles from that screen, so you’ll never have a shortage of available profiles. Yet there is still one flaw in the whole process: it requires you to take specific actions at specific times. We humans — at least some of us — are particularly bad at remembering things like this. And so we embarrassingly receive phone calls at meetings. With a featured app from App World, however, we can make the profile switching process seamless. 
The app is appropriately titled Profile Changer, and it takes a lot of the manual work out of changing profiles. It can automatically do this based on a number of criteria. It can also protect against times when you accidentally leave it on silent. Where you would normally miss a call, perhaps an important one, Profile Changer comes to your rescue. The neatest feature of Profile Changer is the ability to change profiles based on calendar appointments. You can set your profile to change based on specific keywords, which you set in the app. When you create calendar appointments, make sure to insert the appropriate keyword into the subject or location field. When that event pops up on your calendar, Profile Changer will automatically switch to that pre-set profile. For example, if you set the keyword Meeting to change your profile to silent, Profile Changer will take care of that automatically when a calendar event containing that keyword comes up. Another interesting feature is location-based profile changing. The app apparently uses cell phone tower information to generally approximate your location. You can set your profile to change based on those specific locations. That’s wonderful for those of us who forget to silence our phones when going to church or the library. You can even set a custom profile for when you’re at work — perhaps to filter out personal calls. Finally, Profile Changer can switch profiles based on time of day. This works well for those of us with regular routines. We can just go about our days as normal, and the app will change our profiles for us. As for saving us from ourselves, well, Profile Changer takes care of that, too. See, there might be instance where you forget to change your profile from silent back to normal. For this the app has VIP Rule, which lets you assign a contact or group of contacts to what amounts to an emergency breakthrough list. Their calls will always go through, even if the app has changed you to silent. The only catch is that the app works only with BlackBerry OS 7.1 or above, so you need the absolute latest version on the newest smartphones to use this app. But if you do, you can get Profile Changer at App World for $2.99.
