Audible brings audio books right to your BlackBerry

by on May 21, 2009

The BlackBerry is now a multimedia machine. We’ve talked in the past about using your BlackBerry as an MP3 player, because music is a universal art. However, where there are MP3s there are audio books. We’ve also talked about listening to audio books on your BlackBerry, but now there’s an easier way. Audible, a company which specializes in electronic audio books, has released a BlackBerry application. It’s pretty comprehensive, and it’s a great addition for the bibliophiles among us.

The application lets you do it all: browse, sample, buy, download, and stream. So even if you’re on the road you can browse through the Audible library and pick a good read for a long trip. Services like this are going to be the norm for BlackBerry and other smartphones. We want our multimedia and we want it now, and it sounds like there are companies listening to that demand. Hats off to Audible for releasing this killer app. You can get the app at http://audible.com/bb. It looks like current users get a free copy of Hot, Flat, and Crowded by Thomas Friedman. Will new users get the same deal?

I’ve used the Audible application for a couple of months since they released it. It really is a crap application and hopefully does not represent what BB apps will look like. It’s main problems are that it will refuse to play if you are not connected and will not play some titles. Audible Customer Support is even sympathetic,”I must admit the Audible for BlackBerry application can use some Enhancements and bug corrections.”

This app does not work with the Blackberry Curve 8350i per the tech support at audible.com. Even after the installation says it does. It actually recognizes the phone and says “if you have a Blackberry Curve 8350i, click here.”

Hi,

I have had audible.com for years and was thrilled to find app on my blackberry Curve 8330. I called Audible.com 3 times, they told me to call my provider Sprint, who connected me with Blackberry. NO ONE could help me. Audible says its a 3rd party communication problem and I need an APN code and Blackberry has no idea what they are talking about. Sprint said if the phone and internet is working then they have held up their end of my service and can not help me

Can anyone help me with this

The latest Audible update just did the same thing to the “My Subscriptions” of my Verizon phone. So much for my daily paper….

I wish the ability to download directly to blackberry was available as they have done for iphone and android. The player is not very reliable, subject to jumping into fast forward. I’d like to find a provider offering a better play back
