Every now and then we run into a BlackBerry app that makes us think: shouldn’t RIM include this natively? After all, we want our BlackBerry devices to provide simple and smooth interfaces that make data management easy. Since PIM apps are at the foundation of the BlackBerry platform, it would make sense for them to interact at every level. While they do, to some extent, the integration can definitely stand to run a bit deeper. That’s where the longwinded Add To Calendar Email Task Memo app comes into play. It creates inroads between these PIM apps, allowing you to move information from one to another with ease.
The most useful feature is the ability to add information from an email or SMS straight to your calendar, tasks, or memos. It is, sadly, something that the iOS platform has over BlackBerry. iPhone users know that if something in an email resembles an appointment or other date-or-time sensitive task, it adds a hyperlink. Clicking on that link brings you to your calendar. While I wish RIM had this in OS 7, this app does provide a decent alternative. You can click to add the information to those PIM apps, meaning you don’t have to copy/paste the information. The app works in every direction, basically. You can have SMS sent to email, memo, tasks, or calendar. You can have calendar appointments sent to email, SMS, tasks, or memo. And on and on. It takes just a quick menu click to start the process, and it’s pretty seamless throughout. Needless to say, if it really wanted to RIM could offer even better integration of PIM apps. In the future, I trust that they will. It makes all the sense in the world. For now, though, Add To Calendar Email Task Memo will work just fine. You can get it at App World for $4.99.
