Zephyr HxM pairs with your BlackBerry for elite fitness monitoring

by on April 12, 2012

If you’re among the many who use your BlackBerry as a workout companion, you might be interested in an accessory that can take your data monitoring to the next level. While there are apps on your BlackBerry that, using the internal GPS, can monitor your speed, distance, and route when you’re out running, they cannot measure one important aspect of training: intensity. Everyone has different intensity levels, so it’s not something that an app can calculate using just speed and distance. In fact, your BlackBerry itself cannot do that. It needs a little help. Thanks to the Bluetooth accessory Zephyr HxM, you can get all that information quickly and easily.

The Zephyr HxM straps around your chest and connects to your BlackBerry via Bluetooth. It then sends your heart rate information to a fitness application, which then records and stores your information. This way you always know at what intensity level you’re training. Even better, you can turn it on at any time to measure your resting heart rate, so you can determine when you set new baselines. The only downside at this time is that Zephyr HxM pairs only with the app Runtastic Pro. That’s a pretty awesome app, don’t get me wrong. But it’s $3.99, while there are some free GPS running apps in App World. Still, there’s plenty to like about Runtastic, including BBM integration. You can get runtastic PRO in App World. If you want to take your fitness monitoring to the next level, you can get the Zephyr HxM for $75 plus shipping.
