Ready for the strangest lead you’ll read on a BlackBerry blog? I am about to eat smoked almonds. Totally off-topic, right? Not for our purposes it’s not. See, I have this thing where I eat something with my hands, and then pick up an electronic gadget. It’s not healthy in any way, but it’s one of those bad habits that becomes difficult to break. This becomes problematic with my BlackBerry, because the seasoning on the smoked almonds inevitably gets between the keys of my 9930. Eventually that will make the keyboard more difficult to operate. I will undoubtedly have to break this disgusting habit. But in the interim, I’d like a BlackBerry keyboard cover, please.
Unfortunately, I’ve had no luck trying to find one. Back when I used the OtterBox Defender series case, I had a keyboard protector. It was great. Nothing would get past it, meaning my crumbles could be easily wiped away. But I long ago stopped using that case — it was simply too bulky — and when I got rid of it I misplaced the keyboard cover. How foolish of me. Turns out, it was the best part of the case. I could have easily placed that over my keyboard, and then slipped a silicone or other lightweight case around it. Alas, I’m out of luck. There do appear to be some silicone cases with keyboard covers. The Case-Mate Smart Skin actually does a pretty good job of protecting the keyboard with a silicone cover. You can get one of those from Amazon pretty cheaply, usually around $5 to $10, but more expensive for the fancier models. For those looking for a simple silicone keyboard cover, this seems like the best deal. I’m going to need one of them, too; otherwise I’ll be buying a brand new BlackBerry keyboard, which I just don’t want to do. Does anyone out there use a case cover for their BlackBerry devices? If so, let us know in the comments. I’m eager to know if there are some lesser known solutions out there.
