Traveling this summer? Make sure you have the right BlackBerry accessories

by on May 17, 2012

On Saturday I escape the grind and head down for a week’s beach vacation. I’ll miss you guys at BBGeeks, for sure. But it’s just a week; we’ll be rocking again on Tuesday the 29th. Traveling, of course, means my BlackBerry becomes an even more useful tool. To make sure I’m covered I’ve invested in a select few BlackBerry accessories. The best part: it’s going to cost me just $20.

Spare battery

First and foremost, I’m getting a spare battery. When on vacation you never know where you’re going to be. We’ll be at the beach most of the day, and then out and about by night.

Chances are we’re going to spend little time in the actual domicile — which, of course, is the only place to charge my BlackBerry.

To ensure that the BlackBerry doesn’t die when I need it, I’m investing in an extra battery. It will help not only on vacation, but perhaps when I get home as well. (Though in that case I’ll need a charger with a spare battery port, since I have no interest in constantly swapping batteries to charge.)

The BlackBerry 9930 battery is just $9.99 on Amazon.

Car charger

Yes, I’m going to carry a spare battery, but I’d prefer to avoid using it. Keeping the original battery charged is ideal, of course. But since the wife and I are in for a 12-plus-hour car drive, my BlackBerry might not make it all the way. With tweeting and Facebooking and music and games, it’s bound to die after just a few hours as a passenger.

Keeping a car charger handy is basically a necessity on long car trips.

I got a car charger on Amazon for $6.99. It’s tough to beat that at a retail store.

Headphones

As a rule I do not bring my good headphones on vacation. There are just too many opportunities to lose or break them — especially on the beach, where they can get filled with sand. Plus, it’s nice to have a hands free way to talk on the phone. So I grabbed a pair of OEM headphones that contain a microphone. Problem solved.

Oh, and I got those headphones for $2.88.

That brings my total bill to $19.86, a modest cost for three useful accessories. And since I have Amazon Prime, there is no tax or shipping.

See you in a week, BBGeeks.
