Have you ever played a PSP? I hadn’t really until a few months ago, and after about an hour I was pretty much done. I didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t enough for me to spend a few hundred dollars. Yet when I saw hints of a PSP phone, I thought it was an excellent concept. What’s the difference? The dual functionality, I’d guess. I might get a chance to play with one soon; we could be getting an announcement early next month and the phone itself in February. Talk Android has all the details. As they make clear, these are just whispers and might not actually be true. But if they are true, I think I’ll be all over this one. It includes a 4-inch screen, full touch, with 512MB RAM and a 1GHz processor. I thought they could go a bit faster, especially since this will be a gaming phone, but that still sounds adequate. The rumor also mentions Android 3.0, which would be nice. But then again how many devices launch right after the OS is announced? So unless the device will come out considerably later than February, I’m not sure if we can bank on that part being true.

I think its awesome that the fastmall app just released to android! ive waited about a year for it to come from iphone!
It seems like a smart move for Sony. They are already partnering with Google with their televisions. One of the issues I identified in my blog with Android gaming systems was the lack of good controls. If they created a new device made specifically for gaming, they would obviously solve this issue. I’m wondering if the next Sony PlayStation will also run Android. This is really exciting news for Android game developers like me. I assume they will create their own Android Market to keep people from buying these devices and using them for non-Sony games. A smarter move would be to put all PSP games on Google’s Android Market. But then you have the problem with controls again…
Michael, that’s a perfect point about the controls. It’s the entire reason I never got heavy into mobile gaming. It’s also why I’ll give a good, long look at the PSP Phone when I’m looking for my next one.
