Watch streaming videos on your Android with Droid Streamer

by on January 3, 2011

With my first post of 2011, I’d like to immediately kill your productivity. This is not because I have some grand designs on making you a lesser worker in 2011. It’s because I just had my productivity killed by this app, and it was glorious. It’s called Droid Streamer, and, well, it streams videos to your Android. I’m not talking just plain old YouTube files. I’m talking full episodes of popular TV shows. After downloading the app I went immediately for cartoons, and then The Simpsons. There I expected to see a list of the latest episodes, as you might find on Hulu. Of course, this is the point where Droid Streamer blew me away. They have episodes from the show’s heyday, Seasons 1 through 10. While not every episode is present, there’s a very good selection. That led me to click around further. While there isn’t a huge selection of shows, there’s still a decent collection for free. I imagine that, since this is a new application, we’ll see new shows added soon enough. For now you can keep yourself occupied with Family Guy, NCIS, Star Trek, Weeds, and more. They even have a selection of full-length movies that includes all three Terminators and both Iron Mans. In other words, you won’t be wanting for content here. If you’re bored and need something to watch, you’ll find it with Droid Streamer. I played my videos over WiFi, as to get the best picture resolution. Even over a 3G connection it’s not bad, and I imagine that it’s pretty spiffy over T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network. If you’re stuck with an EDGE connection for whatever reason I wouldn’t expect much from it. But then again I don’t expect much from EDGE, period. Again, the app is free, so I see little reason to not download it. The Simpsons collection alone will help fill many bored hours. You can get it in the Market.
